To make a personal decal, to be
displayed on sheilds etc. during netplay games, you need
to have 3 things.
-Myth III
(v1.02)
-Vengeance
-Photoshop (LE or Full
Edition)
Once you have these 3 tools, you are
ready to make your personal decal for Myth III. The
first step in this process, is coming up with an idea,
then drawing it in photoshop.
PHOTOSHOP STEPS
1.Open up
Photoshop and open a new canvas. Make the image size 64
x 64 pixels at a resolution of 72 pixels/inch. Press
ok.
2.You now need to draw your decal. DO NOT draw the decal on the background layer as this makes everything a little more difficult when it comes to the second stage. (Note: At the end of the tutorial you will end up with the decal on the "background" layer.) Instead press the new layer button in the layers palette, or select layer > new. A layer named "Layer 1" will pop up. This is the layer in which you will draw your decal. (can be in any colour or multi coloured)
3.Now you have your design you will make a layer mask. This will mask out all the unwanted parts of the 64x64 pixel square. In a sense, it shows vengeance which bits to "chop off". To create a layer mask, we need to do the following.
-Select the layer transparency of the current layer. To do this Select "Layer 1", press and hold control, click "Layer 1" again. Choose "Select Layer Transparency" from the pop up menu. (Some versions of Photoshop may not require you to select the command from the popup, but instead carry out the tast automatically) You should now see selection lines around your graphic.
-Make a new layer
-Create a "Hide all" layer mask by choosing Layer > Add Layer Mask > Hide all. (If you have the commnand "Reveal Selection" you can use that as miss out the step below)
-With white chosen as the background colour, press the delete key.
4.You should now have the following...
5.Select Layer 2. Use the Merge Down command in the layer menu (Hot key - Mac : Command + E , PC : Ctrl + E)
6.You should now have your decal in the layer labeled "background" and your layer mask in the layer above it.
7. Save your document as a
photoshop .psd
VENGEANCE
STEPS
1.Open up Vengeance.
2.From the File menu select "Open Complete Tag List".
3.From the File menu select "New"
4.You should now have 2 windows open. One with nothin in it, one called "All Tag Files" with a set of folders in it. In the "All Tag Files" window, expand the folder named "Texture Stacks". Inside this folder locate the file called "standard multiplayer logos".
5.Drag and drop this file into the empty window of the new tag you created in step 3. Doing this will automatically create a folder called "Texture Stacks" within it, and will place the "standard multiplayer logos" file into it. Save this new tag (using any filename ending in .tag) into the patches directory in your Myth III folder.
6.Open up the "standard multiplayer logos" file in your new tag. Drag and drop your .psd file you made earlier into it. You will see to images appear as shown below. (If you happen to deselect them by mistake, reselect them by clicking one and shift clicking the other)
7.With both images selected go to the "Special" Menu in Vengeance and select "Merge RGB and A". Your 2 images will now become 1.
8.You now have to compress the image to make it smaller in size. (nothing over 2.048k). To do this, double click on the image of your new decal. It will open up in a large window with a "Recompress" button next to it. Press this button. The "Recompress Texture" window will open. Click the "JPEG" radio button and adjust the slider until the "bytes" reading is below 2048 bytes. Your image may look a little messed up after this, but I assure you its not a problem, and well, it cant be helped.
6.Once you have got the "bytes" value below 2048, press the recompress button, you will be taken back to the "Texture Info" window, press cancel to exit it.
7.You are now done. Save the changes to your tag and close vengeance. You should now be able to see your logo for selection in Myth 3. If you cant, its probably because you did not get the bytes value below 2048.
8.Once you have used your logo once in a netgame, you can disgard the tag file you have made, as Myth loads the image to its logos.dat file.
